Here we have several of Grant Baynham’s own compositions: a sort of mock music hall piece introducing themselves as performers, plus wry and amusing ditties on such topics as the English weather and being ‘on a promise’.
The songs written by others are a splendid selection: W.C. Handy’s “St Louis Blues”, Flanders and Swann’s “Misalliance”, William Barnes’ “Linden Lea”, Fats Waller’s “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and a Jake Thackray classic “The Kiss”.
QuickSilver have no problem handling such a varied collection. Hilary’s vocals\ adapt to suit the different styles and moods, just as Grant’s guitar slips from pseudo-Django through blues to the thoughtful and introspective. A satisfying and pleasing album.”
